First RotaKids

Three Years of RotaKids

The Marpool School RotaKids Club had just completed its third year in 2017.  This year alone it saw membership grow by 90 %.

President Lilly is now one of the 42 members who have achieved some quite  remarkable success’s.  Earlier in the year they were the first RotaKids Club in the South West to be awarded a National Presidential Citation after meeting all six of the qualifying standards.

For the end of year RotaKids lunch they invited President Martyn Clegg of the Rotary Club of Exmouth & District to join them and to accept a cheque on behalf of the End Polio Now Campaign.

Recently they were seen at the Tesco check-out helping customers to pack their shopping bags and as a result raised £550.00 for three local charities and one international charity.

The international charity was End Polio Now and the photograph shows the RotaKids Team presenting President Martyn with the cheque for £125.00. As you know, this will be increased by a matching contribution by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to £375.00.  The RotaKids are aware and delighted that this could result in the purchase of 3500 vaccines to help protect children worldwide from the dreaded polio disease.

The Rotary Club’s aim is to enable and empower three years of RotaKids to fulfil their dream of further service through the formation of an Interact club.

Having Fun and Raising Funds at The Avocet Learning Trust Celebration of Learning Day

The Avocet Learning Trust Celebration of Learning took place on Wednesday 5th July 2017 at the Pavilion in Exmouth. Children from Marpool, Exeter Road, Bassetts Farm and Brixington Primary Schools, provided entertainment throughout the day ranging from Singing, Gymnastic Displays, Poetry and Rock Music.  As you will appreciate the RotaKids were using their skills in a number of ways.

The image shows Vice President Mugabo on an ingenious Fruit Blending Machine operated by pedal power.  The object being to pedal as fast as you could which then operated the adapted fruit blender to turn the pieces of fruit into a fruit smoothie drink which was then sold for 50p per cup.  This together with various hand made goods had already raised over £200.00 on the day.

RotaKids Take Over Tescos

Hundreds of Tesco shoppers were greeted by the smiliing faces of our RotaKids Team and the new Pop-Up Banner’s were on display both inside and outside the Exmouth Store.  The Marpool School RotaKids raised funds for their charitable works.

There are now 42 members of RotaKids attached to the Rotary Club of Exmouth & District which represents an increase in membership of 91% since the start of this RotaKids year.  Here are just some of the Exmouth & District Rotakids with Rotarians shown below.   Watch these pages as they grow to explain more about RotaKids and what is happening here in Exmouth.  The success has been so great that the President of Rotary International Britain and Ireland has presented a national ‘Presidential Citation’ award to the group to recognise their achievements.
